AAP FOUNDATION VISIONARY SOCIETY

This society honors individuals who commit to making planned and estate gifts to the AAP Foundation.

DO I NEED TO WRITE A CHECK RIGHT NOW?

No. This program is designed to encourage estate and planned gifts. Your name will be added to the roster of the Visionary Society when we receive your commitment form. We encourage you to complete your gift within 12 months of signing the form. If you find you need additional time, please let us know when we may expect notification of your gift arrangements.

WHAT TYPES OF GIFTS MIGHT I WANT TO CONSIDER?

Many types of gifts can provide tax savings for you and your heirs while helping us to secure our endowment far into the future. You may want to consider:

  • Adding a codicil to your will or trust document leaving a specific amount of money or a percentage of your estate to the Foundation
  • Making the Foundation the owner and beneficiary of a new or existing life insurance policy
  • Naming the Foundation a beneficiary of an IRA or other retirement plan
  • Making a gift of appreciated stock, which can save you on capital gains taxes
  • Creating a charitable gift annuity to save taxes and guarantee you and your designee an income for life

WHERE CAN I GET ESTATE PLANNING GUIDANCE?

We would be happy to arrange a complimentary consultation for you with a financial planner at A.G. Edwards or Salomon Smith Barney or to work with your financial advisor to assist you in structuring your gift. We also offer estate planning seminars at the AAP Annual Meetings as a member service. These seminars are open to periodontists and their spouses and other friends of the specialty. If you are interested in having the Foundation host an estate planning seminar at your regional or state meeting, please let us know.

WHAT KIND OF GIFT DOCUMENTATION DO YOU REQUIRE?

Our auditors prefer that your provide us with a copy of the codicil to your will or trust that discusses your bequest to the Foundation, or a copy of the form naming the Foundation a beneficiary of your life insurance policy or retirement plan. We do not need to see your entire document—only the portion that deals with your gift to us. All estate planning information will be kept strictly confidential in your private Visionary Society file.

WHAT RECOGNITION DO I RECEIVE AS A MEMBER OF THE VISIONARY SOCIETY?

The roster of members will periodically be published online, in Periospectives Magazine, and in the Foundation Annual Report. We will recognize you in complete accordance with your wishes (for example, "Dr. and Mrs. John Smith" or "John and Jane Smith" or the "John Smith Family").

New Visionary Society members will be welcomed into the organization at a special private reception held each year at the Annual Meeting.
